YING YANG DOG BREATH
Patty has been busy with yacht charters since returning from northern California and I've been surfing chest to head high waves, going to the movies (Slumdog..good flick) and we went to a little send off party at Patagonia for our friend Robb who resigned after 15 years. We had a good time on my 3 days off.
THANK YOU HOWDY!

Nugget and Rico's round trip
Fort Bragg to Half Moon Bay holds some of nature's most treasured coastline to be found anywhere in the world. "Indescribable" is the only descriptive adjective I can use. Anything else would only be an attempt..a stab in the dark in putting into words it's total and untouched beauty. (guess I snuck a couple of them O adjectives in anyhow). I took no photos as it was tricky driving along Hwy 1. There is a little town named Point Arena that we will be going back to for sure. The pics of Patty Nugget and Rico as well as the surfing were taken in Half Moon Bay State park where we spent 2 days during the first leg and 2 coming home. Next are a group of surfer/campers in Morro Bay. I liked their rig so much (probably about 30-40K...sorry guys if I underestimated and I would love to have one) I asked if I could snap a couple. Lots of great people and places. The Beatles "In My Life" is playing in my head. r/s

LADIES OF LAHAINA
Patty made it into the ladies Club last night. They are close friends of mine and each other going back to our sailing days off Maui in the late 1960's and early 70's. The gal on the right is the NEW BRIDE, Patty Montgomery and all fell in love with my Patty...ya gotta be pretty damn worthy to be invited into that circle of women.

William Hedrick / Northern Calif.
Prior to arriving in Ft Bragg along the North California Coast we stopped to visit with Bud and Cas. They are friends from Hawaii going back some 38 years and have been living in Sausalito for the past 20/25 years. Bud began making my guitar about 3 years ago and this is the 1st time we have gotten together since 2004. Patty was sitting in for our 1st jam session and snapped this great photo of the occasion. The wave shots were taken today in front of our camp site in Fort Bragg. The biggest was at least 30 feet on the face. This is a spectacular place.

Mavricks/Half Moon Bay
Beautiful Moonset. Funny wake up call and a 10ft shore pound. Heading for Sausalito tomorrow and our old friends (38 years or 456 months or 1,976 weeks worth of friendship) Bud and Cas Hedrick. Yeah I know Buddy, I lifted the idea of the timeline breakdown from one of your Christmas Cards. Martin guitar Co. can only dream about making an instrument that sounds as good as a William Hedrick guitar, uke, mando or violin.

Poor little Rico
He hasn't been to the beach in a couple of days and today looks doubtful too. Still very wet outside. It's so wet and muddy we made him wear booties. Spike was so embarrassed - everyone was looking and pointing. But it kept his paws clean!
We have been cooped up since we're not going to ride our bikes in the rain. That's the only time I miss having a car. However, we leave tomorrow to go north - Half Moon Bay (where Mark and Tone lived for a while) then Sausalito then to our final destination - Fort Bragg where we're going to a wedding on Feb. 14th. This is in Northern California - FREEZING.
Mark, Tone and Lucas should be in Florida now. They arrived in CA from Australia to visit family before they headed to Florida so it was great to see them - it's been 3 1/2 yrs. They were our neighbors in Ft. Lauderdale about 5/6 years ago. Now they'll only be 3 hours away when we get home. As you saw from the photos - we sat around the fire, roasted hot dogs, listened to great music and caught up.

2nd blog Saturday
I caught the best waves from 4:30pm to 6pm since Tres Palmas. Tom Curren and myself were the only guys out at Ventura Overhead (the real deal as opposed to the inside reef) for the 1st half hour. He called it double overhead. He also said C st was as good as it gets at the same size. Sunny with the evening glass off. He is a super nice guy giving me pointers and encouragment. Man oh Man did he ever catch some meaty walls of glassy perfection. I've met many superdudes since being here. The lifeguards in particular are the best. They see me as they pull into the park and are always smiles and hand signaling me to get my ass in my wetsuit and paddle out with them. I was the last guy in last night and it was almost dark. Curren was the 1st in. He and his buddy waited for me in their truck to make sure I made it in. When I did and began walking up the beach, they gave me a flash of their headlights signaling the end of a supreme evening of perfect waves and new friends.

IT'S GOIN OFF
In an hours time the tide dropped and barrels rolled in one after the other. the 1st shot is when the outside reef began throwing out 8ft plus peaks.
Then the skies cleared, one guy paddled to the outside, I went to get my wetsuit on, the offshore winds came and froze my bare feet and it went from 8ft plus to a couple feet overhead and within the hour it was fading fast. It was fun while it lasted.
Wet and Chilly
Yesterday while walking Rico I saw a surf fisherman in the surf, standing on his 6 ft. bright yellow ladder casting. His bucket of bait was secured to the paint tray shelf and waves were breaking about half way up to the 3rd rung. By the time I ran back with my camera he had been washed ashore. Only a photo could have done it justice. You had to be there!

DOWN UNDER DIAZ
First off I want to thank Bill for pickin and grinnin last night around the camp fire we lit up to welcome home our dear friends Tone, Marko and the little Kahuna Lucas Diaz. They have been in Austrialia the past 3 years. I know Patty will want to tell the story about them when she gets up this morning. Bill will no doubt end up playing at my funeral .. hey bro, my choice is "Something Fine"! Thanks.
